Food for thought:

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” ― Marie Curie

Upcoming events:

  • Sunday, March 12: 2:00- 4:00 pm: Non-Fiction Readers Book Discussion Group, meets on the 2nd Sunday of each month. New discussion participants always welcomed! Please join us at the Huntsville Public Library on Monroe Street in Huntsville, room A/B (to the right of the lobby).

The March selection is “Thank You for Being Late: An Optimist’s Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations” by Thomas L. Friedman. Part of the description on Amazon: “In Thank You for Being Late, a work unlike anything he has attempted before, Thomas L. Friedman exposes the tectonic movements that are reshaping the world today and explains how to get the most out of them and cushion their worst impacts. You will never look at the world the same way again after you read this book: how you understand the news, the work you do, the education your kids need, the investments your employer has to make, and the moral and geopolitical choices our country has to navigate will all be refashioned by Friedman’s original analysis.”

Come to enjoy some snacks and hopefully leave learning about something new!

“The saddest aspect of life right now is that science gathers knowledge faster than society gathers wisdom.”― Isaac Asimov

From their FaceBook event page:

April 22 (Saturday) 1:00 to 2:00: The March for Science: Rocket City is a local chapter of the National March for Science, focused on celebrating the unique STEM-oriented culture we have here in our area, encouraging our elected representatives to enact evidence-based policy in line with that culture, and supporting local organizations which promote science and tirelessly work to make science accessible to people of all ages.

In recognition of that STEM heritage, we’ll be marching from the our great local research institution of UAH to Huntsville’s own Space and Rocket Center.

This is a truly non-partisan, family friendly march that isn’t focused on any singular science related issue, this is about reminding our representatives how important well-funded, empirical, peer reviewed science of all kinds is to our economic success.

Upon conclusion of the march, we encourage attendees to support local landmark science-based institutions such as the Huntsville Space and Rocket Center, The Huntsville Botanical Gardens, our lovely State Parks, and others.
